Why the theme – “Grow Together”?

The FAAA Congress is on our doorstep – Adelaide here we come (20-22 November 2023).

The inaugural FAAA Congress celebrates the coming together of the FPA and AFA. With a united voice to Government to advocate for much needed regulatory relief for financial advisers, the peak professional body is poised to deliver to members a Congress like no other. FAAA Congress 2023 will be a memorable experience for all those who attend.

Congress is a celebration of the profession coming together – to share knowledge, acknowledge achievements, discuss and debate the future of advice and grow our network of support. Congress is an opportunity to “Grow Together”.

The best part of gathering as an advice profession is to be open to diverse and fresh thinking and to challenge and grow ourselves, our team and our businesses as we gain new perspectives.

The breath and depth of the Congress Program delivers something for everyone, commencing with –

Day1 – Monday 20th –5 Preconference workshops – worthwhile coming to before the Opening Plenary 4pm and Welcome Reception.

Day 2 -Tuesday 21st kicks off with the Inspire Breakfast followed by Plenary 2, before delegates choose their 4 sessions (from 20). There will be plenty of time to prepare for the Awards Gala Dinner later that evening.

Day 3– Wednesday 22nd- the day begins hearing from Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services Stephen Jones, then delegates choose 2 sessions (from 8) and finally a motivational and empowering Plenary ending Congress at 2.30pm.

With a line-up of high calibre, interesting speakers, the specific topics have been carefully designed to deliver to the needs of financial advisers. The sessions will be interactive and engaging with clear take outs and practical tips to take back to implement for yourself and for your business.

Legislated CPD for attendance is up to 10 hours with access to recorded content post event.

How will this year’s theme resonate with practitioners?

Growing the next generation of advisers is critical as we scale our businesses for growth, embracing technology and implementing more efficient pathways to cater for consumer need and demand for financial advice.

Over the last decade, financial advisers have adapted and adjusted to the rapid pace of change and embracing higher education and higher standards, we have collectively evolved as a profession. We are embarking now on exciting times and can identify new opportunities ahead to reimagine and recalibrate our advice businesses for growth.

Hearing from your peers about their experiences and what’s working for them, stimulates creativity and re-invigorates practitioners to think beyond their daily challenges, by showing them what their advice businesses could look like in the years ahead.

What excites you about this year’s Congress format?

Everything…… The Congress team are living and breathing Congress to deliver an amazing experience for you.

Plenary sessions are always a balance between education and entertainment (edutainment) along with the topic being relevant to the advice profession. Sourcing internationally respected subject matter presenters who have a unique ability to engage with the audience, is one of the most exciting aspects of Congress we look forward to delivering to delegates.

We are fortunate and delighted to have with us at Congress 2023 two international speakers:

William Green, veteran journalist and the celebrated author of the best seller “Richer, Wiser, Happier”, will captivate the audience as he presents an anthology of powerful insights from interviewing the world’s top investors and what makes them successful not only with money but in life.

Ryan Stramrood, renowned inspirational speaker and masterful storyteller in his keynote on “PushPastImpossible”, will speak to how powerful the mind is, goal setting, the power of determination and believing in yourself…. as he illustrates his journey of human endurance as an ultra-extreme open ice water swimmer.

We couldn’t go past acknowledging the role technology is continuing to play in our lives and in our advice businesses and how specifically Artificial Intelligence (AI) will improve advice delivery workflow and contribute to the growth of the advice profession. Our AI panel includes moderator Ross Dawson, globally recognised futurist and Laurel Papworth who has several decades experience in AI. Dante De Gori (CEO FPSB) and Jacqui Henderson (Founder & CEO Advice Intelligence) are the other panellists who will provide a financial services lens to AI. In this high-level session, we not only hope to demystify AI and discuss how AI can support our profession, but also discuss it’s responsible application to deliver better client outcomes.

The Pre-conference workshops on the Monday will be particularly practical, addressing succession planning organically (Professional Practice), having a sustainable and fulfilling career in advice (Students, Paraplanners/support staff and Gen Next), a sharing of best practice ideas in a high energy session (Mic Drop) and expanding your expertise with getting your teeth into a complex case study (in CFP Connect).

The Inspire Breakfast on Tuesday welcomes all members to hear from a creative communicator Natalie Shehata, on Eco styling and how being more aware of how your clothing is produced enables you to be more conscious when buying clothing that has positive environmental and social impact. Wearing your values attracts the right people to you in work and life and can deepen your relationship with clients and those around you.

Over 4 streams – 24 sessions you will be exposed to “Develop”- client care, communication and self-care; “Expand”- practice management, “Navigate” – professionalism, ethics, regulation and compliance and “Strategise” – technical.

We encourage you to visit the FAAA Congress website for the finer detail of what you have to choose from – but broadly speaking there are mix of quality speakers around topics that matter to you the most. Collaborative advice – working with accountants and lawyers to deliver timely and effective advice to cater for complex needs and intergenerational planning; efficiencies in business through compliance, technology and innovation; adviser self-care; growing business to serve more clients through smart ways of marketing and personal branding; succession planning – organically and mergers as business scale up’ leadership and building a successful team culture; advocacy and regulation; the latest in risk advice, superannuation and estate planning; some interesting ethics topics you haven’t been exposed to before and the art of communication and influence.

Another exciting aspect of this year’s format will be the inclusion of a 5th stream “Inform” on the Tuesday – which involves growing our profession by hearing from the latest in academic research and how all stakeholders can work together to secure and retain talent in our respective businesses.

In this stream we also have introduced “speed dating” – called Industry Experts Lightning Talk, where delegates choose 3 topics from 15. Presenters are challenged to be concise in the 20mins they have to present. This session is likely to be very popular and attendance is limited – so we are repeating the session.

There are ample networking opportunities as we know the magic of coming together are those side conversations with each other which inspire new ideas. The highly anticipated FAAA Awards Gala Dinner on Tuesday night is a great way of celebrating advice and the profession and having fun!
